NEWS FROM OLU ABNEY | News from Adebayo

June 10, 2009

Olu AbneyHello!

This is Olu I just wanted to email you to say hello and tell you how well I did this semester. I earned three A's and two A-'s. That means all A's for this term. My GPA is currently a 3.62, I'm on my way to that perfect 4.0. Since you've been pivotal person in my life I also wanted to tell you that my goals are to go to Stanford for a PHD in Higher Education and then go on to become a future President of Morehouse College.

Thank you for helping me thus far, plus the office experience you provided me with helped land me an internship with a Political Fund Raising organization called the Oblander Group. I'm actually helping a Senator by the name of Kasim Reed, become the next Mayor of Atlanta. This is helping me learn the fundraising aspect which i'll need for my Presidency. In addition I'm interning in the Department of Student Services at Morehouse College. I'm directly under the Director and Assistant Director, I'm learning how a campus runs. In addition next week I go to San Fransisco for this teaching internship with a program called Breakthrough Collaborative. I'll be teaching history to 5th and 6th graders.

To all the members of Team Oni - I want and need all of you wonderful people to see what your work is contributing to, all A's and 3 internships in one summer, I can say I definitely have the greatest team in the world behind me.

THANK YOU!
O. Abney

I was devastated to just learn of the passing of your Mom. Oni is one of the amazing women that I photographed for my book Body and Soul. I have been trying many times to connect via email to Oni and just assumed her information changed. I had no idea until now. Please, I would love to speak with either one of you by phone. The book is being published to Living Beyond Breast Cancer site which will go virtual. I want to share that with you and make sure that you know you Mom's image and story will be shared around with women around the world. Oni was one of my most enjoyable women to know , love and photograph. I am truly sorry.
I look forward to hearing from one of you.
Much love....Jean Karotkin

Would you both post updates? I love hearing about what you're doing. Ade, my daughter Zoe is your age. We were staying in New York when she was six months old, and your mom trudged up to 95th Street to see us, heavily pregnant with you. Zoe does a lot of activities -- she's a soccer goalie and takes dance classes at Alvin Ailey when we can get her to the City from Massachusetts -- but she'd REALLY envy your travels. Olu, your family is always in my heart. I think of Oni all the time. I know if I called Tommy tomorrow and asked how things were, he'd say, as he always did, "Everything's wonderful." Looking at you two, I know it's true.

I wanted to reach out to you all. I played Angela in the San Francisco production of Oni's "Tough Titty." I have great shots of all of us and would love to share them. Please respond to this email and I will be happy to send them to you. As the school year is beginning, I pray you great health, strength and serenity. Be dynamic this year and keep in touch.

This is a fantastic report just in from Olu. He is remarkable! I feel certain nothing is beyond his reach. After he becomes President of Morehouse, he has my vote for President of the United States.

Thank you so much!
The emails you sent are so inspiring. I’ve worked so hard this past semester and thus far during the summer. Thank you so much for your contributions but more importantly, thank you for all the help you given me throughout my life, especially after my Mother’s passing. The help you’re providing is breathtaking. I love you all madly! I cry sometimes because I know how happy she would be at my academic success, She was always a stickler for grades, wherever She maybe currently She is still a stickler for grades. More importantly I know my Mom’s happy because of all the support I’m getting from you all. Please remember that none of you are friends, you are all family. My Mother always had a great assortment of people around her especially women. She knew you guys would hide her out just in case she had to kill my Brother, Father and I for driving her too crazy. I love you all so much you have no idea. I leave for San Francisco June 13th for this teaching internship and I know it’ll be wonderful. I’m actually in the Morehouse College Honors Program, so this is a much need break from my difficult courses. Please keep my Mother and Family in your prayers. I LOVE YOU ALL!

Very, Very Sincerely,
O. Abney

NEWS FROM ADEBAYO ABNEY

June 23, 2009

Adebayo AbneyThese last few years there have been quite a lot of things going on. One of which being, my mother passing away. Although that has been one of the negative aspects of my life there have definitely been quite a few positive things.

On April 1st of this year, I went on a very exciting trip to Paris, France with my peers. Being that I'm only thirteen there were some limits on what I could do in France, that adults might be allowed to do. That being said I did do some fun things in France, like visiting Le Musse De Louvre , where you can see the Mona Lisa and the Venus De Milo. I also visited the great palace of Versailles. The trip is just an example of some of the positive things going on in my life. I joined “The African Genesis Club “which teaches young African-American children about their rich heritage. June 19, 20, and 21, I will be working with my pops as a volunteer at the “Clearwater Greater Hudson River Festival.” On June 26 I will graduate from Philippa Schuyler MS 383. In July, I’m going to the SUNY Maritime College Water Activities Camp to learn about sea life, and then, to visit with my grandmother Vina in OKC. During August I am going to the NY Knicks Basketball Camp, then on a New England and Canada Cruise, and to the Smith, Abney, and Lott Family Reunion in Washington, DC. I hope to keep doing these kinds of positive activities as I escalate in age and I make a transition into high school and later college
